Trind looked at her blankly, "..." She shook her head, "n-no... she is a reg...ular." It felt as if her heart had stopped; placing a hand on her chest she took in a shaky breathe to calm herself. "Was it him?"

Miya looked at the girl with a slightly confused look. "Him?" She then noticed the patrons looking at the two. "Maybe we should talk someplace a bit more private."

She nodded her head, "Just a moment." Trind scampered off into the back, explaining to her boss what was going on, he agreed she needed to go to a more private area and said she'd have the rest of the day off. The girl came back out with her coat in arm. "Where to?"

"To my car. You can explain what you know on the drive over to the precinct," Miya said and turned towards the door.

Trind nodded solemnly, she couldn't believe that one of the regulars was gone... she knew this day would come, most of them were on the older side... But Mrs. Shade was so young, thriving mother to be exact...

They made it to the cop's tricked out car, Trind got into the passenger seat, buckling up immediately, placing her hands in her lap; she wasn't nervous, or embarrassed, just... she didn't know.

Miya started the engine and peeled away, switching on her lights so she could haul towards the station. "So tell me what you know about the family." Her words were firm yet gently. She could tell the girl was nervous, but she didn't know why.

The girl shrugged, "Not much, only as much as a waitress could know about a family. Mrs. Shade and her husband were so in love, it was one of those marriages you just had to be in awe over." Trind swallowed, "They had two daughters and a baby boy; the girls were 16 and 8, and the baby was only 3 years old. I swear I watched him grow up." She let out a little laugh and smiled, "I remember when they all came in for Christmas breakfast," she shook her head, "You could tell they were a very loving family; started caroling at the entrance of the cafe." Trind heaved a sigh and looked at the woman, agony obvious in her eyes.

Miya let out a sigh. She hatted being the one to deliver bad news. "Well unfortunately, they are all in the same state as Mrs. Shade," she said solemnly. They weren't far from the station and she wanted to know everything this woman did, but first she needed to tell her the hard part.

Trind paled a little, "And... the way you say that makes it obvious it... it isn't a good state to... to be in..." She swallowed hard, looking out the passenger window. "If I'm right, how do I tie into this?"

Miya shrugged. "I have to admit, I'm not entirely sure myself. Something just told me that the coincidence of running into you the same day your name came up in our research was far more important then I could allow to pass up. However, since it seems you knew the family so well, I think you might be able to help with our investigation." She turned into the parking lot of the station and killed her lights. "Did any of them mention anything about a stalker or some random creep watching their house or anything?"

Her name came up on the research? This kind of took Trind back a little, but she was still very focused on the question. "A Stalker... Um, " She put her index finger on her plump bottom lip, "The last time Mrs. Shade came in she did say something about thinking someone broke into her house; something about odd markings on every corner of the walls, right at the bottom where it wouldn't be noticed."

This was definitely news to Miya. "And she didn't report it?" the Major asked as she locked the car's doors and headed for the front of the building.

She shrugged, "She thought it might've been one of the kids playing a trick on her, or possibly something she just didn't ever see before and was simply being paranoid." Trind got out of the car and followed the cop.

They got inside and Miya immediately took Trind to her office where she had some of the pictures and could take the girl's statement in privacy. "So did she ever she ever show you what the symbols looked like?"

"She said they were just circles with a small circle inside; kind of like a target." Trind sat down in the chair opposite from the girl, placing her hands in her lap once more.

Miya sat in her own chair and thought for a moment before pulling out a picture of the symbol drawn on the bedroom wall. "This is the killer's art work we found today," she said calmly as she handed the girl the picture. "Ever see anything like it before?"

She looked over the images, trying to just analyze and not see familiar things like the necklace Mrs. Shade wore every time she came in with her husband. "Um..." Trind blinked back a few tears, "I, I've seen this in an old Swedish book. Samlar." Trind's accent came out full on with the familiar Swedish word.

"What is it?" Miya asked as she was taken off guard by the sudden language switch up.

"It means 'The Capturing', I'm not an expert on it, but to my understanding it was used to..." Trind had to think of the word, placing her finger to her lip again, "I suppose you could say capture one's soul and light... or something satanic like that." She looked back down at the picture, "and the use of fire just makes the Samlar more accurate." All of this was giving Trind the shakes; handing the photo back to Miya she tucked a stray hair behind her ear.

Miya looked at the picture and laughed lightly. "I'm really glad you knew that. It would have likely taken weeks for my team to find anything on it."

A knock came on the door and A young woman walked in. "Major! We've got a report of someone being mauled by what they described as a half human monster along Cavenaw drive."

Miya stood and grabbed her coat again. "Sorry Ms. Oskari, but it looks like our meeting will have to be cut short." She reached in a pocket and withdrew a card. "If you hear or see or even think something weird is going on around you, give me a call and I'll personally look into it."

The Major took a step towards the door and turned back, walking backwards. "I'll have one of my other officers take you home. Have a good day ma'am." with that she was gone out the door.

Her heart nearly stopped at the description of the crime scene; how could something do that to something else? Maybe she was old fashioned, or just plain sheltered, but that still didn't make it right. "Uh, thanks, but I'll be fine." She said to the fleeting major. Trind rose and walked out of Miya's office, heading for the door.

(that better? lol.)

((Much))

Miya stopped long enough to tell a young recruit to take Trind home before running to her car and peeling out of the parking lot.

The Young girl walked down the hallway and stopped in front of Trind and bowed. "I will be your escort home ma'am," the girl said with a tired smile.

Trind looked at her, her shyness over coming her, "Uh, no, really, I'm fine." She gave a kind smile, "you already have so much to take care of, the least I can do is walk home." She started heading for the door again.

The girl giggled and followed Trind. "I can't let you do that. I'm on orders to escort you so that's what I've gotta do."

Trind wanted to argue the point, but she understood rules were rules. She sighed and just nodded, "Alright, then can you just drop me back off at work?"
